History of LPA

Little People of America was founded in 1957 by Billy Barty, a well-know actor when he and twenty other short-statured individuals met for a week in Reno, Nevada. During this week, these individuals shared information, their experiences, and the challenges they have faced as a result of dwarfism.

Currently, LPA has more than 5,000 members and assists with the formation of similar organizations throughout the world. As you will see throughout this Web site, there are plenty of opportunities for anyone who wants to get involved at the local chapter level, district level, or national level.

Our mission

Little People of America, Inc. (LPA) will provide assistance for physical and developmental concerns resulting from short stature. By providing medical, environmental, educational, vocational, and parental guidance, short-statured individuals and their families may enhance their lives and lifestyles with minimal limitations. Through peer support and personal example, our members will be supportive of all those who reach out to LPA. Lastly, by networking with national and international growth-related and genetic-support groups, LPA will enhance knowledge and support of short-statured individuals.
