Little People of America District 8
Little People of America (LPA) is the largest non-profit organization in the world designed to provide information, social interaction and support for people of short stature caused by one of more than 200 medical conditions broadly classified as dwarfism. District 8 represents Louisiana and most of Texas. It is currently made up of five chapters, which include New Orleans (Little Cajuns), Dallas/Fort Worth (Dal-Worth), Houston, San Antonio, and West Texas.
District 8 and the five chapters it contains strive to enrich the lives of its members by finding solutions to the challenges associated with dwarfism. LPA provides support, education, and membership to people no taller than 4 feet 10 inches, their families, and interested professionals who work with short stature individuals. District 8 and the chapters it represents make up one of fourteen regional districts bound together by a single national organization. The national organization spans all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico (and has spread to our neighbors to the North and South, and reached "across the Pond to England").
All LPA districts, including district 8 hold two district regional conventions each year in a different city located within their district. Each year all LPA districts come together for a weeklong national convention in a different city within North America. As part of these regional and national conventions, members have the opportunity to interact with other members and gain valuable information through free medical appointments with various specialists, athletic competitions, special interest groups, workshops, tours arranged with accessible transportation, banquets, and DJ hosted dances among many other activities. |
